Night Walk 1/23 - Reggio Emilia - November 12, 2009

About a year ago I bought a Sigma 10/20 lens for my Nikon D90. Eager to try it, I took a late walk at night along the almost desert streets of Reggio Emilia. For some reason there are some very rare times when very few people are around and these are the best for taking pictures of the city. That night it was probably because of the damp cold and the late hour...

Via Broletto - Reggio Emilia - December 19, 2010

Another view of Via Broletto with some Christmas lights.

Via Broletto - Reggio Emilia - October 2008

Via Broletto is the short portico street that connects Piazza Prampolini (the Cathedral square) with Piazza San Prospero (the square of the Patron Saint). In this picture we can see the opening toward Piazza San Prospero, with the church dedicated to the Saint in the background.

Car Wash 1/2 - Via Bianchini, Reggio Emilia - October 2008

This car wash has been there since I can remember but it was torn down the day after I took this picture. When it was built it was probably on the outskirt of town, but the city has grown so much that now it would be right downtown, a very impractical location for a car wash. I don't know what they are going to build in its place, but this is another little piece of old Reggio Emilia making way to change.

P.S. This (and the next) are my very first attempt at HDR using an old 5 MP Sony camera.

Mirabello Stadium 1/4 - Viale Olimpia, Reggio Emilia - October 7, 2010

This is Reggio Emilia's old soccer stadium. Now it's mostly used for rugby and a very few events (we had Deep Purple here this summer). Wikipedia has more about it.

From Wikipedia:

Stadio Mirabello was a multi-use stadium in Reggio Emilia, Italy. It was used mostly for football matches and hosted the home matches of A.C. Reggiana 1919. The stadium was able to hold 17,000 people and opened in 1912. In 1995 when Stadio Giglio was opened it ceased to host A.C. Reggiana 1919, Brescello, a lower league soccer team, played in Stadio Mirabello for some years, until it become the main Rugby stadium in Reggio Emilia. At the end of the 2007/2008 rugby season the agreement between the city of Reggio Emilia and the local rugby team ended. Rumors say it will be tear down.

Waiting - Giglio Stadium 4/4 - Reggio Emilia - September 26, 2010

...So, everybody was waiting for something and the closed ticket office was probably waiting too... for somebody to write something else on its walls.

Waiting - Giglio Stadium 1/4 - Reggio Emilia - September 26, 2010

A couple of Sundays ago I went to the Giglio stadium to pick up my daughter who was invited as a ball girl at the soccer game. I am not a big soccer fan, so I waited outside the stadium taking some pictures of the almost desert streets surrounding the structure. Everybody else was inside except some security people at the gates and some occasional passers by. All I could hear were the harsh choruses of the supporters... a kind of eerie atmosphere, actually...

Calatrava's Bridge - Reggio Emilia - March 27, 2010

I guess the best way to start a photoblog about Reggio Emilia can be a picture of the latest, most modern, symbol of the city: Santiago Calatrava's beautiful bridges. This is the central one.
